Mediators Beyond Borders was activated as Mediators Without Borders in January 2007 by four incorporators: Kenneth Cloke, Robert A. Creo, Erica Ariel Fox and Joan S. Goldsmith, as a charitable organization under Pennsylvania law. Kenneth Cloke designs the community-based model for MBB.
The Liberian Initiative
Mediators Without Borders launches The Liberian Initiative under the leadership of MBB Secretary-Treasurer Robert A. Creo. It is a multi-pronged project to repatriate a group of former child soldiers from the Buduburam Refugee Settlement near Accra, Ghana back to Liberia. The Liberian Initaitive remains the largest MBB international project to date.
2nd Annual MBB Congress
MBB held its 2nd Annual Congress in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on March 6-8, 2009.
At the MBB 2nd Annual Congress, Robert A. Creo was presented with an Award for his dedication to the Liberian Initiative.

Two Pittsburgh Attorneys Are Using Their Skills As Mediators To Help Liberian Refugees And Former Child Soldiers

Louis Kushner has done an extensive amount of traveling. From China to Poland to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Kushner has seen and experienced many cultures. Bur even he was a little surprised when Robert Creo approached him about a trip to Ghana and Liberia.
Creo and Kushner are both attorneys and mediators. Ceca runs a private mediation practice based in Pittsburgh. He has taught mediation at Chatham University, Duquesne University School of Law and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Kushner is a labor and employment attorney and a seasoned mediator with the Pittsburgh-based firm Rothman Gordon.
He is a course planner, panelist, speaker and lecturer to various groups on the subject of mediation. He has also served as senior editor for a book on alternative dispute resolution in employment law to be published by IINA.
